I pride myself in making the right connection, and take a collaborative approach.  Your ideas and beliefs will always be encouraged and embraced; after all you are the expert on you, and your relationship.  We start off with getting to know one another, questions of all types are encouraged on your part (even personal questions about your therapist).  We will discuss some paperwork briefly (see forms and documents), and then I will inquire into your life story.  This helps me to understand you better, your experiences, successes, and hurts, as well as “just what life was like for you growing up” (this aids me in understanding better what you bring into your relationship).  We will talk about your hopes for counseling and will touch on goals briefly.  The following session we will finalize your goals, making sure I am on the same page to adequately address your concerns .  Subsequent sessions will address established goals, making changes permanent, changing problematic interactions and self defeating thoughts.  After four or so sessions we will review how things have been going (a time to be blunt and honest), if need be adjustments will be made.

All this helps to ensure that the best possible outcome is reached in the least amount of time.
